Remembering Lilian Mary Elizabeth Wyles of the Metropolitan Police

During Sunday 10th March, 2019, a remarkable occasion was enjoyed by very many people who assembled for the commemoration and celebration of the remarkable life of Lilian Mary Elizabeth Wyles (b. 31st August 1885 – d. 13th May 1975) who lays buried in St Sennen churchyard, Sennen near Land's End, Cornwall.

The very moving service and blessing drew together serving police officers and staff from the Metropolitan Police and the Devon & Cornwall Police, senior police officers including Cressida Dick CBE, QPM Commissioner of the Metropolis and Patron of the Metropolitan Women Police Association (MWPA), members of the MWPA, relatives of Lilian's, members of the Cornwall International Police Association (IPA) Branch, IPA members from other branches, members of the National Association of Retired Police Officers (NARPO) and other police groups as well as the congregation all of whom packed out the picturesque, medieval church and had lunch together afterwards.

Many old friendships were rekindled as the police family met to remember a most remarkable trailblazer for women everywhere and one which led to thanksgiving for the service, bravery and dedication of all women police officers down the this past 100 years.

Special thanks must go to Beverley Edwards, Chair of the MWPA and her team for organising such a well run, memorable and magnificent occasion.
